The University of Basra organizes a symposium on Brief introduction in epigenetic

The College of Education, Qurna, Department of Life Sciences at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific symposium on Brief introduction in epigenetic. The assistant lecturer, Dr. Hasna Amer Mahoos, lectured at the symposium.

The symposium aimed to learn about the meaning of epigenetics, or what is called epigenetics, and its role in regulating gene expression, which explains the mutual and continuous influence between the organism and the surrounding environment.

In the context of her talk about the concept of epigenetics, she included an explanation of some of the paths through which genetic expression of traits is influenced, the most prominent of which is the occurrence of some mutations in the genetic material, DNA and the histone proteins associated with it, which play an important role in regulating gene expression in terms of activation or repression. It touched on modifications related to DNA methylation, as well as histone methylation
As well as acetylation and phosphorylation processes that affect gene expression.
The occurrence of any imbalance in these processes, increase or decrease, leads to the occurrence of diseases... including cancer, heart, liver, kidney... etc. Scientists are trying to benefit from this information and employ it in manufacturing the appropriate medicines for each case. Scientists have concluded that...
Controlling the change in genetic expression of traits has more potential than changing the genetic makeup of an individual.
