About the English Department

  The English Language Department was established in the College of Education, Qourna, 2019/2020, where it received the first batch of students. The Department of English Language in the College of Education, Qourna, is keen to consolidate the academic excellence of the department’s students, emphasize modern information and knowledge, and develop the students’ individual skills and experiences to achieve a better career future, and in this way the department contributes to the performance of the academic mission, Which it looks forward to.

 The English Department in College of Education in / Basra University, seeks to provide better service to society by graduating English teachers for all levels to serve the learning and the development of speaking the needs of thecommunity to develop this language because it is associated with  fields of education, research, consultation, administration, and others  

Strategy:

1- Creating a comprehensive scientific plan to ensure preparing the needs and requirements that make the output of the student respond to labour market.

2- Encouraging the teaching staff to participate in the sessions, workshops, and scientific conferences inside and outside the country to serve improving scientific and cultural levels .

3- Holding  scientific local and regional conferences.

4- Holding special workshops for school teachers in order to develop Enaglish methods of teaching.

5- Holding courses of the TOEFL for postgraduate students in addition to the fact that the debartement is the exam center for the TOEFL.

6- Holding conversation courses in English for different state institutions by applying  modern methods of language teaching. English as an internationallanguage by knowing

Goals:

The department aims at the following:

1- Preparing  a generation of teachers, for the intermediate and secondary  levels, who have the ability to teach English .

2- Preparing  graduates who master the four skills.

3- Enabling  Students to rely on themselves in understanding what they read and hear in the English language .

4- Creating  a stable  student  behaviorally and emotionally .

5- Developing  the literary skills and aesthetic sense of students through  teaching  English vocabulary .

6- Using  techniques to achieve  integration with other methodological fields  and incorporating them  as basic parts of teaching  programs in the department .
