The Department of Life Sciences was established since the establishment of the college of Education Qurna, the university of Basrah in 2011. The life science department grants a bachelor's degree in life science after preparing the students for four years so that graduates can work as teachers in secondary schools, vocational schools, and Iraqi institutes, or complete post-graduation. For the purpose of providing an opportunity for graduates to specialize in life science, in the year 2020, postgraduate/master’s studies were opened

The department also provides the best modern scientific techniques for educational services for students in university and higher education, and work to develop skills that enable them to integrate in all fields accurately and effectively. It supports the movement of scientific research and knowledge interaction in order to communicate continuously with the scientific and cultural development in the world, and meet the renewed needs of society in order to achieve comprehensive and sustainable human development and enable national, regional and global competition and transform knowledge into wealth through research, development and innovation and activate the role of partnerships between universities on the one hand and between production and service institutions and interaction with society on the other hand and meet the country's need for efficient and qualified scientific cadres to be leaders of the future.

Objectives of the department: The department aims to prepare teachers capable of teaching life sciences subjects in its various branches and teaching methods in secondary schools (middle and middle) and work in the relevant scientific and health departments and institutions, as well as preparing researchers in various branches of life sciences to work in research institutions and centers, and contribute to the preparation of future leaders in the educational and scientific fields by seeking to meet international standards, quality requirements, academic accreditation and achieving international quality in the quality of educational programs and services provided. As well as competition to apply for the international classification lists through the specifications of the graduate in light of the vision and mission of the department.
