The Women's Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Student Activities Unit and the Continuing Education Unit, organized an awareness seminar titled (Breast Cancer: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Prevention) at the College of Education – Al-Qurna, as part of the Pink October activities dedicated to breast cancer awareness.
The seminar aimed to spread health awareness about breast cancer, highlighting the importance of early detection and its role in increasing recovery rates, as well as enhancing the health culture among students and staff regarding disease prevention and risk reduction.
The seminar included several axes presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Hasna Amer Mahous, Asst. Prof. Dr. Alaa Salem Kadhim, and Dr. Fadhila Qasim Saleh Al-Ali, where breast cancer was defined along with its causes, symptoms, and the contributing factors for its appearance in both sexes. This was in addition to reviewing modern diagnostic methods, advanced treatment techniques, and ways to distinguish between benign and malignant tumors, while explaining the health and psychological impacts resulting from delayed discovery of the disease. The seminar also witnessed the distribution of awareness brochures to enhance the health knowledge of the attendees.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the lecturers emphasized the importance of monthly self-examination and periodic medical check-ups for early detection of any potential changes, stressing that early diagnosis is the most important step to achieving high recovery rates and facilitating the treatment journey for those affected.
