College of Education/Al-Qurnah Organizes an Awareness Seminar on Preventing Electronic Extortion

The College of Education/Al-Qurnah at the University of Basra, as part of its educational and awareness programs, organized a seminar titled "Electronic Extortion: Methods of Confrontation from a Guidance Perspective." This was done in cooperation with the Guidance Unit and the Legal Unit at the college, and with the participation of students from the scientific and humanities departments.

The seminar was presented by Ms. Marwa Falih Farhoud, Ms. Saif Mohammed Jassim, and Ms. Sarah Sabah Abdel Ali. The lecturers covered a set of important topics, most notably the definition of electronic extortion crime and its various forms (financial, emotional, psychological), the psychological and social effects that extortion leaves on the victim, and methods of prevention and protection, including enhancing digital awareness, not sharing personal information, being cautious of unknown links, and the importance of immediate reporting to competent authorities such as the Community Police, as well as reviewing the most prominent laws enacted by the legislator to combat this phenomenon.

This seminar comes as part of the college's efforts to spread digital awareness among students and enhance the culture of self-protection against electronic risks, which contributes to reducing the spread of these crimes that pose a direct threat to society.
