The University of Basra organizes a specialized scientific workshop on capturing carbon dioxide

The College of Education in Qurna at the University of Basra organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled:
“Designing New Metal-Organic Frameworks and Covalent Organic Frameworks for CO₂ Capturing”

The workshop witnessed a lecture delivered by Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Hamad Ati from the Department of Life Sciences, and Lecturer Dr. Muhammad Maitham Obaid from the Renewable Energy Center at Future University.

The workshop addressed the serious environmental and climate impacts of carbon dioxide emissions, and ways to address them through modern technologies aimed at reducing emissions and converting the gas into clean, environmentally friendly fuel.

The two lecturers also focused on the advanced design of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and organic covalent frameworks (COFs), and how to combine them to develop hybrid materials that combine the advantages of the two types, which contributes to raising the efficiency of gas capture, increasing storage capacity, and the stability of materials in the long term.

The workshop concluded by presenting the prospects for applying these materials in industrial fields, and demonstrating their potential as effective alternatives to high-cost and unsustainable traditional technologies.
