A master's thesis at the University of Basra discussing reasoning according to Radhi al-Din al-Istarabadi

The Qurna College of Education at the University of Basra discussed a master’s thesis in the Arabic Language Department by the student Mumil Abdullah Najm, entitled: Reasoning according to Radi al-Din al-Istarabadi (686 AH), a study in light of the logic of controversy.

The thesis aimed to reveal the aspects of reasoning and argumentation in Al-Istrabadhi’s commentaries on Ibn al-Hajib’s texts, and to demonstrate the importance of employing the logic of argumentation in studying linguistic issues in which there are many possibilities and disputes arise over them.

The study included a theoretical aspect in which the researcher introduced the concept of inference and argumentation and the mechanism for working with them, and an applied aspect in which he dealt with examples of morphological and grammatical issues that Al-Istrabadi addressed using various inferential methods.

The study concluded with a set of results that highlighted the role of inference and the logic of argument in solidifying linguistic rules and controlling the process of transition from the tangible to the intangible, leading to opinions that are closer to certainty
