On Sunday, August 3, 2025, the College of Education / Qurna, University of Basra, observed a minute of silence and mourning, in commemoration of the souls of the martyrs and victims of the genocide against the Yazidi component and other components, coinciding with the commemoration of the International Day of the Yazidis, which was approved by the United Nations to commemorate that humanitarian tragedy to which authentic components of the Iraqi people were exposed.

This stance came in solidarity with the victims and their families, and an emphasis on the values of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect between all sectors of Iraqi society.
The college stressed that commemorating this occasion comes as a matter of moral and national responsibility, and in order to consolidate awareness of human rights issues and reject all forms of violence and discrimination.
