An awareness workshop at the University of Basra entitled “No to Drugs” for graduate students

The Faculty of Education - Qurna at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the Women's Affairs Unit, the Continuing Education Unit and the Legal Division, organised an educational and educational workshop entitled “No to Drugs”, targeting graduate students, on Sunday, 28/4/2025.

The workshop was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Afaq Mustab Abdel Latif, Assistant Professor Dr. Hassana Amer Mahouds and Assistant Professor Mr. Ali Badr, Head of the Legal Division at the College. The workshop dealt with the definition of the types of natural and synthetic drugs, and their negative effects on humans of both sexes, especially on the brain and nervous system, in addition to reviewing the legal dimensions related to drug abuse and the penalties resulting from them.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness among students about the risks of addiction, the destructive effects of drugs on physical and psychological health, and on the ability of the individual to practice his daily life normally. She also emphasised the diversity of narcotic substances and the difference in their side effects from one type to another.

The workshop concluded with a number of recommendations, most notably calling on teaching staff to enhance awareness within the university environment, in addition to the importance of using awareness-raising means such as signboards, and intensifying surveillance within the campus to reduce this dangerous phenomenon.
