A scientific study at the University of Basra prepared by Assistant Professor Dr. Adnan Badr Ghaleb in the College of Education / Al-Qurna at the University of Basra investigated the effect of mineral scaling formation under different injection water sources on the performance of Mishrif carbonate reservoir in Halfaya oilfield, Southern Iraq The study, published in the Journal of Petroleum Exploration and Production Technology, which is indexed in Scopus, said that scale formation is a complex process that can be affected by several factors including the composition of injection water, temperature and pressure, and the presence of other minerals. The study also found that scale formation can significantly impact oil field performance, leading to reduced productivity, increased maintenance costs, and even early well abandonment. The study results highlighted the importance of water treatment in preventing scale formation and ensuring long-term sustainability of oil production.
