The English Department at the Faculty of Education in Qurna was founded in 2019. It  has exceptionally high expectations of students, in-keeping with the importance of the subject. We believe in enabling students to become precise, confident and creative in their use of the English language. Equally, we seek to foster and promote a love of literature as well as empowering our students by providing them with the skills required to deconstruct a wide range of texts.

Dr. Jawad Kadhim Jabir is an assistant professor at  the University of Basrah at the College of Arts, Department of Translation since 2002. He got his MA in English Linguistics from the same college in 1999. His MA thesis is entitled "Modes of Emphasis in Standard English and Modern Standard Arabic: A Contrastive Study from a Hallidayan Perspective". He obtained his PhD from the university of Shahid Chamran of Ahvaz in Iran in 2016. His PhD dissertation is entitled "Cultural References, Disciplined Improvisation and Curriculum Empowerment: A Study of Incorporating Product and Process Creativity Values into a Translation Course from Arabic into English". Since the first of December 2020,  he is the Head of the English Department at the Faculty of Education in Qurna now.

He is interested in Translation, Contrastive Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, Reviewing Research Papers  and Curriculum Development.
